Lady Clippers was founded in 2006 following the retirement of prominent Bronxville, NY landscape designer, Mieke Armstrong. Mieke had a select group of female master pruners care for her gardens following her dissatisfaction with local professionals. Ann Perkowski and Cornelia Mitchell formed Lady Clippers upon Mieke’s retirement and continued to work on pruning her gardens. Lady Clippers has grown to include many exquisitely-designed gardens throughout Westchester County, New York City and Fairfield County, Connecticut. We have a staff of master pruners who have been trained in our very specialized method of hand pruning.
Ann Perkowski is a master gardener who studied design at the New York Botanical Gardens. She marries the creative forces necessary for a lovely, long-lasting garden: a beautiful design and the art of selective hand pruning. Ann teaches classes on pruning at the New York Botanical Garden, Brooklyn Botanic Garden and the Westchester Native Plant Center. Her own studies include visiting gardens in the US and Europe to explore pruning styles that make an exquisite garden. Recent pruning residencies include Sissinghurst Garden, Great Dixter, the French Dordogne and Claude Monet's Garden in Giverny for two weeks in Spring 2016.
Cornelia Mitchell, aka CJ, is our most experienced Lady Clipper. She was one of Mieke's original (and favorite!) pruners and a co-founder of Lady Clippers. Cornelia was born a master pruner. Her artistry with secateurs is legendary.
Kathy, also a master gardener, has been pruning with Ann and Cornelia for 10 years and in her own garden of roses, flowering shrubs, perennials, annuals, vegetables and herbs since long before that. Kathy volunteers regularly at the Demonstration Garden at Hart's Brook Park & Preserve in Hartsdale, New York.
